Vijay's Bigil re-releases in Sri Lanka theatres amid coronavirus pandemic

Thalapathy Vijay was last seen in director Atlee's Bigil, which went on to become a blockbuster in theatres in 2019. Months after the film's release, Bigil re-released in Sri Lanka in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. Many theatre owners feel that films of top heroes can bring back the crowd.

Earlier, Bigil re-released in selected theatres in Germany and France. A Twitter user shared a screenshot of Bigil being listed for the 10 pm show at a theatre in Sri Lanka. He further listed out actor Vijay's films, which are being re-released in theatres across the globe.

Apart from Bigil, Vijay's Mersal and Sarkar are now running in theatres across Malaysia. This has given Vijay's fans a reason to rejoice.

His fans were eagerly waiting to watch Vijay's Master, which was supposed to hit the theatres on April 9. However, due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, theatres across the country remained shut, which led to the postponement of Master.

Recently, Master's producer Xavier Britto revealed that the film will release only in theatres and not on OTT platforms as speculated. Theatre owners, exhibitors, and distributors believe that big films like Master can bring back the crowd to the theatres.

Meanwhile, there were rumors that theatres in Tamil Nadu will re-open on August 1. However, Tamil Nadu minister Kadambur Raju stated that the news is false and that there is no chance of theatres re-opening in the state until the coronavirus situation is in control.
