V-P Venkaiah Naidu lauds Telangana doctor who drove coronavirus victim's body to crematorium on tractor
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday appreciated the efforts of a doctor in Telangana who took a coronavirus patient's body to a crematorium on a tractor and ensured his last rites were performed.
In a tweet, Venkaiah Naidu said, "Greatly appreciate the gesture of Dr. Pendyala Sriram, Peddapalli District Surveillance Officer in Telangana. I am sure his noble act will inspire others. #Respect."
Dr Pendyala Sriram, District Nodal officer of Peddhapalli district in Telangana, drove a tractor carrying coronavirus patient's body to a crematorium after the municipality driver denied to do the same for the fear of contracting the virus.
After the coronavirus patient succumbed to the infection on July 13, the hospital staff informed the municipality staff to take the body for cremation.
When the municipal worker didn't turn up till evening, the doctor took it upon himself to drive a tractor to a crematorium and perform the last rites of the patient.
"It was already six hours since the patient had died. The family was getting restive. The staff too was not comfortable seeing a body still lying there," the doctor was quoted as saying by TOI.
