US records nearly 2000 deaths in a day

Nearly 2000 people have died in the United States for the second day in row, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally on Wednesday. Over 14,000 people have already died in the US taking it above Spain which has so far recorded 14,555 deaths. The United States is yet to surpass Italy, which is the worst-affected country in Europe with over 17,000 deaths. The record-breaking figure of 1,973 deaths (slightly higher than the previous day's toll of 1,939) in the United States brings the total number of US fatalities to 14,695. Among the dead in the US are 11 Indians. Another 16 Indians have tested positive for the infection in the US. So far more than four lakh people in the US are infected from the novel coronavirus. The highest death toll continues to emerge from the New York City which has become the new epicentre for the outbreak. New York is accounting for more than 6,000 deaths and over 1,38,000 cases of infections. New Jersey has recorded 1,500 fatalities and nearly 48,000 infections.
