Devendra Fadnavis defends as political war breaks out over Kangana Ranaut

Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut has become the centre of a political storm taking over Maharashtra. While the ruling Shiv Sena is going all out against the actor for her remarks on Mumbai Police, the BJP has been highlighting the need for her safety as she takes on "Bollywood drug nexus".

The latest Shiv Sena leader to hit out at Kangana Ranaut is party chief and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray himself. In an apparent jibe at Bollywood actor, Kangana Ranaut over her “Mumbai feels like PoK” comment, Uddhav Thackeray on Monday said some people don’t have gratitude for the city where they earn their livelihood.

Kangana Ranaut had recently compared Mumbai with Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir in a tweet. Ranaut had also said that she feard Mumbai Police more than 'movie mafia' and would rather take protection from the Centre of Himachal Pradesh as she takes on an alleged “drug mafia in Bollywood”.

Uddhav Thackeray's statement comes on the day Centre granted Kangana Y-plus security.

Meanwhile, former Maharashtra CM and leader of opposition Devendra Fadnavis defended the need to provide her with a security cover.

On being asked about his views of Kangana Ranaut's statements against Maharashtra and Mumbai Police, Fadnavis said that while no one will support what she said, but that should not be the reason overlook her security.

"No one will support what Kangana said. Even we have condemned it. But that doesn't mean we are living in the Banana Republic. If you don't agree with her, it is still the responsibility of the state to protect every citizen," Fadnavis told media at a press conference on Monday.

The Centre's decision to provide a security cover to Kangana Ranaut has drawn criticism from several legislators from the ruling alliance. Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh said that 'it was disheartening and surprising to see that a person who has discredited Maharashtra was provided with a Y-plus security cover.'

Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik slammed the Centre's decision to prove her security and claimed that the central government would even go on to provide security to Dawood Ibrahim just because the state government was opposing the underworld don, "It's wrong to compare Mumbai with PoK and the Taliban. She has also said earlier that she is aware of some drug links. She should be probed. The Speaker has assured action of my letter in the next 25 hours ... We are also opposing Dawood Ibrahim and the centre would go on to provide him with Z security tomorrow," Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik said.
