Top Hizbul commander killed in J&K; Doda declared free of terrorists
Top Hizbul commander Masood alias Rahi was killed in an operation on Monday in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag, along with two other terrorists.
The district of Doda has been declared terrorist-free post the operation.
J&K DGP Dilbagh Singh told India today, "With today's operation at Khull Chohar Anantnag by Anantnag Police along with Local RR unit in which two LET terrorists including one district commander and one HM commander Masood are neutralized, Doda district in Jammu Zone becomes totally militancy free one again as Masood was last surviving terrorist of Doda District."
The slain terrorist, Masood, studied up to class 8 and picked up arms in 2018, months after he was accused of raping a minor in Doda. He went absconding ever since and later joined Hizbul Mujahideen and shifted his area of operation to Kashmir.
His real brother Farooq Ahmad is a terrorist in Pakistan since 1999.
IG Kashmir Vijay Kumar said the highest number of terrorists have been killed in the month of June. He said, "So far, this is the highest killings of terrorists (46) in a single month." As of now, 116 terrorists have been killed this year.
As per information available, the army and the police had launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) on the basis of specific information about the presence of terrorists early morning leading to an encounter.
The operation turned into an encounter after the militants fired upon a search party of the forces, who retaliated, the official said.
