Tamil Nadu govt orders colleges, schools not to compel students and parents to pay fees during lockdown
The Tamil Nadu government has ordered educational institutions not to compel students and their parents to pay fees during the lockdown, in force to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
The order, issued under the provisions of the Disaster Management Act - 2005, comes in the wake of complaints that some of the educational institutions were compelling the students and parents to pay fees.
“It is brought to the notice of the government that some of the private colleges and schools are demanding fees from parents during this period of lockdown,” chief secretary K Shanmugam said in the order. The order restricts educational institutions from compelling the students and their parents to pay the fees for the coming academic year and dues of the academic year 2019-2020. The educational institutions have been asked not to levy any penalty on the students for not paying the fees during the lockdown which has been extended till May 3.
