Sunil Gavaskar on CSK's title chances at IPL 2020

Former India opener Sunil Gavaskar opened up on MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) titles chances in IPL 2020, saying lack of a proper blend of experience and youth can hurt them this year.

CSK bought only 4 players at the IPL 2020 auction and are heading into the season, retaining the 'Daddies Army' tag. Having proved that experience matters in what was perceived to be a youngster's format, CSK is relying on their seasoned campaigners to do the trick, once again.

However, Sunil Gavaskar feels that the absence of Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh has left a huge void in the CSK squad ahead of IPL 2020.

"The absence of Raina and Harbhajan has left a huge void in the CSK team, and it will be hard to replace such stalwarts. However, this provides an opportunity for youngsters to make their presence felt," Sunil Gavaskar said.

While Sunil Gavaskar named CSK's experienced players as their greatest strength, he also revealed that lack of young blood might imperil CSK's title hopes in IPL 2020.

"Any good IPL team must have a proper blend of experience and youth. Does CSK have the kind of youngsters whose energy can uplift the team? That is a huge question the Chennai team faces. Due to this factor, I feel CSK will find the going a little difficult this IPL," Gavaskar added.

Gavaskar hailed Dhoni's temperament and mentioned that there are few T20 players of the caliber of Suresh Raina, who give their 100 percent on the field.

"Having taken retirement from international cricket, MS Dhoni will have no pressure as such, and that should take his performances a notch higher this season. Suresh Raina, meanwhile, has been an absolute master playing the IPL. As a left-hander, he offers the perfect balance for any team. CSK will sorely miss his services this year."

CSK begin their IPL 2020 campaign against defending champions Mumbai Indians in Abu Dhabi on September 19. MS Dhoni-led CSK is currently three-time champions and will be aiming for their 4th title this year.
