Shahid Afridi, Gautam Gambhir need to be sensible and calm down: Waqar Younis on social media altercations
Former Pakistan captain Waqar Younis has urged both Shahid Afridi and Gautam Gambhir to calm down and be sensible as the two cricketers from neighbouring countries are at constant loggerheads on social media.
Waqar Younis said that the banter between Gautam Gambhir and Shahid Afridi has been going on for 'way too long' and advised the India and Pakistan stars to 'talk it out'.
Waqar Younis, a decorated fast bowler and captain, said people are going to love their banter but the two cricketers should act smart.
"The banter between Gautam Gambhir and Shahid Afridi has been going on for a while now. I think they both got to be smart, sensible, and calm down. It has been going on for way too long. My advise to them is to maybe catch up somewhere around the world and talk it out if you cannot really calm it down," Waqar said during an interaction on chat series "Q20" on GloFans.
"In social media, if you carry on that, people are going to love it and people are enjoying it and that I feel that they both should be sensible and smart."
Waqar Younis's comments come after Gautam Gambhir lashed out at Shahid Afridi for his controversial comments on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kashmir.
Constant social media spats
Shahid Afridi had requested the Pakistan Cricket Board to include a team from Kashmir in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), triggering a sharp reaction from Gautam Gambhir.
"I would like to request PCB to introduce a team from Kashmir in next season. I wish to play my last PSL season from Kashmir team, in fact as their captain," Afridi had said.
"I've been deeply humbled by all the love shown to me by the people of Kashmir. I hope they will support me at their full level if I play for them in PSL."
"Pak has 7 lakh force backed by 20 Cr ppl says 16 yr old man @SAfridiOfficial. Yet begging for Kashmir for 70 yrs. Jokers like Afridi, Imran & Bajwa can spew venom against India & PM @narendramodi ji to fool Pak ppl but won't get Kashmir till judgment day! Remember Bangladesh?" Gambhir responded.
Earlier this year, Gambhir had called Afridi a 'liar, traitor and opportunist' after Afridi said in his memoir that the former India opener had 'attitude problems'.
"Someone who doesn't remember his age how will he remember my records!OK @SAfridiOfficial let me remind u one: 2007 T20 WC final, Ind Vs Pak Gambhir 75 off 54 balls Vs Afridi 0 off 1 ball. Most imp: We won the Cup. And yes, I've attitude towards liars, traitors & opportunists," Gambhir had said.
