Sasikumar to play lead in remake of Bhagyaraj's Mundhanai Mudichu
Veteran filmmaker Bhagyaraj's blockbuster film, Mundhanai Mudichu, is all set to be remade in Tamil after almost 37 years.
According to the latest report, actor-director Sasikumar has been roped in to play the lead in the remake of the iconic film and the shoot is likely to begin post lockdown. JSB Sathish, who had earlier produced Vikram Prabhu's Asuraguru, will be bankrolling this project.
Sources say that Sasikumar recently met Bhagyaraj at his residence and signed on the official agreement. However, the makers are yet to finalise the director of the film. Rumours are also that Bhagyaraj, who had directed the original, will helm the remake as well. An official announcement regarding the cast and crew of the film is likely to be made in the first week of June.
Mundhanai Mudichu was a romantic entertainer featuring Bhagyaraj and Urvashi in the lead roles. The film went on to become a huge blockbuster and was even remade in Hindi, Telugu and Kannada.
Bhagyaraj is making a comeback as an actor in Jyotika's upcoming film, Ponmagal Vandhal. He will be seen playing a lawyer in the film. Meanwhile, Sasikumar has more than four films in his kitty. The actor is awaiting the release of MGR Magan, directed by Ponram. The film is a commercial entertainer featuring Sathyaraj, Mrinalini Ravi and Samuthirakani in important roles.
He is also working on three other films - Kombu Vecha Singamda, Rajavamsam and Paramaguru.
