Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Chhote Lal Diwakar and his son were gunned down in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal on Tuesday over a tussle with a former pradhan in Sansoi village.
Chhote Lal Diwakar, who was the pradhan of Sansoi village in Sambhal, had a tussle with the former pradhan of the village over road work under the MGNREGA scheme. His son and he were both fired upon in broad daylight on Tuesday. They died of the bullet injuries on the spot.
According to sources, the wife of the deceased Samajwadi Party leader is the village pradhan in Sansoi, Sambhal district. A faction objected to the construction work of the road which escalated into a tussle between the SP leader and the former pradhan.
“Father and son died at spot in bullet firing. The bodies have been sent for post mortem and an FIR is being registered. Three teams have been formed and some people have been detained. An investigation has been started,” said Yamuna Prasad, SP Sambhal.
A video of the incident is doing the rounds on social media showing two men with rifles pointing the weapons at the Samajwadi Party leader and his son and shooting as locals and several onlookers crowd the road.
Many people were present at the spot during the shooting, some of who shot videos of the incident. The video shows an argument between two groups followed by the firing.
In a tweet, Samajwadi Party has accused the BJP of trying to muzzle the voice of the Opposition by killing their leaders. The party has asked UP Police to take action in the killing of a Dalit leader.
The incident has caused tension in the area.
Familiy members of the two deceased have alleged that while they had informed the police about a possible clash, the personnel failed to act on time, resulting in the two deaths.
