Rishabh Pant hits sixes at will in Sharjah, Delhi Capitals pay tribute to Sourav Ganguly
While Sachin Tendulkar's Desert Storm in Sharjah is etched in the memories of cricket fans, Sourav Ganguly has also enjoyed some fine moments at the UAE cricket venue. The former India captain lit up the Coca Cola Cup final in 1998, smashing Zimbabwe all-rounder Grand Flower for 3 successive, mammoth sixes.
22 years hence, another India southpaw was seen hitting spinners into the stands, albeit empty ones this time, at will. Delhi Capitals star Rishabh Pant was enjoying his time at the nets at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium during the team's training session in the lead up to the Indian Premier League (IPL ) 2020.
Rishabh Pant hit one into the long-on against veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra. He then shuffled across and hit one into the deep fine-leg stands, earning praise from his teammates. Pant made it 3 in 3 with another, this time over long-off as seen in the clip shared by the franchise.
Pant will be key to Delhi Capitals' chances in the upcoming IPL season, starting September 19 in the UAE. DC will be without their mentor Sourav Ganguly this season but are training under the watchful eyes of Ricky Ponting, their head coach.
Pant has been in fine form for Delhi Capitals in the recent past. The left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman scored 684 runs in IPL 2018 and followed it up with 488 runs which led the side to the play-offs.
Delhi Capitals have added firepower to their already strong batting unit by roping in the likes of Ajinkya Rajhane, Shimron Hetmyer, Marcus Stoinis, and Alex Carey. They have a strong spin unit in the likes of R Ashwin, Sandeep Lamicchane, Amit Mishra, and Axar Patel.
Delhi Capitals open their campaign against Kings XI Punjab in Dubai on September 20, a day after the opener between holders Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.
