Rhea may not be arrested for abetment of suicide, says former CBI director
As the Central Bureau Of Investigation (CBI) takes up the investigation of the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, the prime suspect in the case remains the actor's girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty, who was charged with abetment of suicide in Sushant Singh Rajput's father, KK Singh's FIR in Patna's Rajiv Nagar Police Station. Former CBI Director AP Singh, however, feels it is unlikely that Rhea will be arrested for these charges. Speaking to India Today, AP Singh said that this is unlikely because Rhea left Sushant Singh Rajput's home a week before the actor died. Rhea left the Bandra, Mumbai house on June 8, and Sushant died by suicide on June 14.
"It is very unlikely that Rhea will be arrested for abetment of suicide as she left the house a week back. She might be arrested if something else comes up during the investigation, like a breach of trust," AP Singh told.
Taking about how the CBI Special Investigation Team will approach the case, Singh said, "The crime scene is an important aspect. The CBI will be using forensic experts and analyze the photographs of the crime scene. The CBI will also be probing if it’s a case of murder along with if it’s a case of abetment of suicide."
AP Singh, however, goes on to add that abetment of suicide is a difficult case to investigate and prove. "Abetment of suicide is a very difficult case. The intent of the accused, the psychological analysis of a person, and many other aspects are considered and it plays a very important role in the investigation," Singh added.
The Special Investigation Team formed to probe Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case consists of officers from Anti-Corruption Unit VI of the Central Investigation Bureau. The four-member team includes Manoj Shashidhar, Joint Director; Gagandeep Gambhir, DIG; Anil Yadav, Additional SP, and Nupur Prasad, SP.
This elite unit of the central agency has probed high-profile cases like the Vijay Mallya case, the Coal Scam, and the AgustaWestland case. This team also successfully extradited middleman Christian Michel in the AgustaWestland case from Dubai.
The CBI took over the Sushant Singh Rajput death case after the Supreme Court ordered the same yesterday, August 19 in a 35-page verdict.
On July 25, Sushant Singh Rajput’s father, KK Singh, filed a complaint against Rhea Chakraborty, her family, Samuel Miranda, and Shruti Modi at Rajiv Nagar Police Station in Patna. On the basis of the complaint, an FIR was registered by the Patna police, and an investigation was started.
The Mumbai Police, on the other hand, had filed an Accidental Death Report on June 14 and were already investigating the case. After the FIR against her, Rhea moved the Supreme Court seeking transfer of the case’s jurisdiction to Mumbai.
