Ram is with everyone: Priyanka Gandhi says Ram Mandir bhoomi pujan will celebrate national unity
Aday before the Ram Mandir bhoomi pujan in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi has issued a statement in support of the ceremony saying the event can be a celebration of national unity in India along with friendship and brotherhood among all. In a statement on Tuesday, Priyanka Gandhi said, “With the blessings of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita, the bhoomi pujan ceremony can become the foundation of national unity, brotherhood and cultural congregation.” The statement marks a tectonic shift in the Congress party’s strategy that otherwise towed the secular line and didn't want to openly identity with Hindutva beliefs.

This is perhaps the first time in decades that a member of the Gandhi family has voiced open support and devotion for Lord Ram. In her statement, Priyanka Gandhi has further said, “Simplicity, courage, restraint, sacrifice and commitment are the essence of the name Deenbandhu Rama. Ram is within everyone, Ram is with everyone.” “A bhoomi pujan ceremony for the mandir at Ram Lalla’s birthplace has been scheduled for August 5.
With the blessings of Lord Ram, this event will also be a celebration of national unity, friendship and cultural integration,” said Priyanka Gandhi in her statement. With this statement, Priyanka Gandhi has for the first time plunged into an issue that despite originating in Uttar Pradesh, has had tremendous national bearings and reach over decades. Priyanka Gandhi said for ages Lord Ram's character had served as a source of unity for the entire Indian subcontinent.
"Ramayana has left an indelible mark on the civilization of the world and the Indian subcontinent. For ages, Lord Ram's character has helped the Indian sub continent.... "Lord Ram belongs to everybody. Lord Ram wants everybody's welfare. That is why he is called 'Maryada Purshottam'," she said ahead of the grand celebrations planned in Ayodhya on Wednesday. On August 5, nearly a year after the Supreme Court verdict, the bhoomi pujan ceremony will mark the beginning of the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the chief guest attending the event in Ayodhya on Wednesday.
