Priyanka Gandhi Vadra prays at Valmiki temple in Delhi to express solidarity with Hathras victim
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited the Valmiki temple located on Panchkuian Marg in New Delhi on Friday. Her visit to the temple comes a day after she was denied permission to meet the family of a 19-year-old girl from Hathras on Thursday.
During her visit to the temple, the Congress general secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, attended a prayer meeting to express solidarity with the 19-year-old Dalit girl from Hathras in Uttar Pradesh. The teen had died allegedly after she was brutalized by four upper-caste men on September 14.
Two minutes of silence was also observed at the Valmiki temple in Delhi to express solidarity for the 19-year-old girl from Hathras.
Priyanka, who met leaders of the Valmiki community and expressed her solidarity, was accompanied by Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) chief Anil Chaudhary. Party leaders Rajiv Shukla, Pramod Tiwari, and PL Punia were also present.
On Thursday, Priyanka and former Congress president Rahul Gandhi were denied permission to visit the girl's family in Hathras. After their convoy was halted on Yamuna Expressway, the Congress leaders decided to cover a distance of more than 100 km to Hathras on foot.
