Private hospitals launch home care packages for Covid-19 patients

Private hospitals have begun offering home care packages to Covid-19 patients with mild symptoms who are eligible for home isolation. Max Healthcare, Medanta and Fortis Healthcare in Gurugram have begun providing treatment at home to Covid-19 patients with mild symptoms. This method of treatment might help reduce overcrowding at hospitals.

The homecare package launched by Max Healthcare is priced at Rs 5,000 (without BP machine) and Rs 7,000 (with BP machine) for a period of 15 days. Fortis Healthcare's home care plan is priced at Rs 6,000 for 17 days while Medanta's package starts at Rs 4,900 for 15 days.

Max Healthcare package includes a vitals monitoring kit which is sent to patients. It contains a digital thermometer, an oximeter for measuring oxygen levels in blood, and a digital BP measuring machine. A nurse calls the patient twice a day for vital monitoring, follow-ups and feedback. A doctor reviews the case with the patient every few days.

“Our homecare packages are meant for tested Covid-positive patients with mild or no symptoms who are eligible for home isolation. These symptoms can include mild fever, headache, sore throat, fatigue, etc,” said a Max spokesperson.

Fortis Healthcare package includes on boarding call by trained a Corona assistant on how to implement home isolation protocols, app-based self-reported inputs to check temperature, heart rate, increase in symptoms and new symptoms, four doctor consults, a psychologist consult and a dietician consult.

Dr Ritu Garg, zonal director at Fortis Memorial Research Institute in Gurugram told that they don’t suggest home isolation for a patient unless a video consultation takes place between a doctor and the patient. “Once the doctor certifies home isolation, the patient is enrolled for our home care package which is priced at Rs 6,000 for 17 days”.

Medanta has also launched home care Covid packages because as per government guidelines, confirmed mild cases of Covid-19 may not require hospital stay if they have the requisite facility of self-isolation at home. The 15-day remote home care package starts from Rs 4,900 and goes up to Rs 21,900, Dr Sushila Kataria told.

“The basic Covid care package for Rs 4,900 includes four doctor consultations, daily remote monitoring by a trained nurse, vitals monitoring tool and a dietician consultation,” she said.

While a complete Covid care package priced at Rs 21,900 is a basic package plus a Covid test, N-95 masks, gloves, sanitiser, digital thermometer, BP Machine, SPO2, 3 ply mask and a PPE kit. Medanta has also launched an advanced Covid care package priced at Rs 9,990 and advanced plus Covid care package priced at Rs 11,990.
