Ponniyin Selvan: Veteran actor Nizhalgal Ravi to play crucial role in Mani Ratnam film
Veteran actor Nizhalgal Ravi, who has acted in more than 500 films, has been roped in to play a crucial role in Mani Ratnam's much-anticipated film, Ponniyin Selvan. The film is an adaptation of Tamil literary novel of the same name, written by Kalki Krishnamoorthy. Jointly bankrolled by Mani Ratnam's Madras Talkies and Lyca Production, many leading actors including Vikram, Jayam Ravi, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan are part of the project.
According to the latest reports, Nizhalgal Ravi will also be a part of the film. He will begin shooting for his portions by the end of this year. Earlier, there were reports that actor Prabhu and Sarathkumar have been finalized to play the role of Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar and Chinna Pazhuvettaraiyar, respectively. Now, we hear that one of the actors has opted out of the film due to other commitments and Nizhalgal Ravi has been finalized for the role.
Major portions of the actor are likely to be shot at Ramoji Rao Film City, Hyderabad. An official announcement will be made in a month's time.
Interestingly, Ponniyin Selvan will be the first big film in Tamil cinema to resume shoot post lockdown.
Mani Ratnam is currently discussing the possibilities of shooting the film with a minimal crew, following safety precautions. A couple of months ago, Mani Ratnam revealed that the film will be made in two parts. The first part, which is currently under production, is slated to hit the theatres in early 2021.
Meanwhile, Nizhalgal Ravi is currently shooting for popular television series, Chithi 2, which features Radikaa Sarathkumar in the lead role.
