PM Modi praises India’s fight against Covid-19, says vaccine safety as crucial as speed

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday met the chief ministers where he discussed the present Covid-19 situation in the country. After the meet, PM Modi said India is in a better situation while noting a spike in coronavirus cases in some parts.

“As a result of joint efforts, today India is in a better situation than other countries when it comes to recovery and fatality rates,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a virtual meeting with CMs.

On the Covid-19 vaccine, PM Narendra Modi said, “Safety is as important as speed for us, whichever vaccine India will give to its citizens will be safe on all scientific standards. Vaccine distribution strategy will be chalked out in collective coordination with states. States must also start working cold storage facilities.”

The PM asked CMs to work to bring a positivity rate below 5 percent and a fatality rate under 1 percent. “Seeing good recovery rates, many think the virus is weak & they'll recover soon, this has led to rampant carelessness... Those working on vaccines are doing it but we need to focus on ensuring that people are alert & transmission is curbed. We've to bring positivity rate under 5%,” PM Modi said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held virtual meetings with Chief Ministers to discuss the coronavirus situation in the states. At the meet, PM Modi asked the chief ministers to share feedback with him in writing on the Covid-19 strategy. PM Modi also asked states to set up task force/steering committees at the district or block level to prepare for the Covid-19 vaccine program.
