PM Modi calls for unity against coronavirus, BJP organises protests in Maha, risks lives: Shiv Sena

Shiv Sena on Monday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the coronavirus situation in Maharashtra and the saffron party's decision to hold a protest against the inflated power bills in the state.

In his mouthpiece 'Saamana', Shiv Sena said while PM Narendra Modi speaks about bringing the world together to fight the coronavirus pandemic, the BJP is "organizing protests, gathering crowd and risking the lives of the people".

PM Narendra Modi joined the G20 Summit via video conference on Saturday to discuss the global impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

In a tweet, PM Narendra Modi said, "Had a very fruitful discussion with G20 leaders. Coordinated efforts by the largest economies of the world will surely lead to faster recovery from this pandemic."

In the Saamana piece, Shiv Sena said PM Modi said coronavirus was the biggest crisis the world has faced since World War 2 but his party, the BJP, is fighting the government in Maharashtra and risking people's lives amid a pandemic.

"PM is speaking about bringing the world together to fight coronavirus. His party is organizing protests in Maharashtra, gathering crowd and risking life," Shiv Sena said.

The BJP has called for a statewide protest in Maharashtra over the inflated electricity bills and the Palghar lynching case in which two sadhus were killed. Shiv Sena said the pandemic is still among us but "crowds are bring gathered for political gains".

"The pandemic has gone nowhere and still crowds are being gathered for political gains. PM is giving a message to the world to unite and we are divided over politics in the country," Shiv Sena said
