Odisha govt to provide free transport, accommodation to JEE-NEET candidates
The Odisha government has decided to facilitate transportation and accommodation for needy candidates appearing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2020 and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) exams, the Chief Secretary Asit Kumar Tripathy informed on Friday.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had written to Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ as well as spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday for postponing the NEET and JEE exams. However, since there has not been any postponement and hardly 72 hours are left to the holding of the exams, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik has swung into action to help the JEE and NEET applicants and has put his machinery into movement.
Floods are ravaging half of Odisha and there is no public transport due to this.
In total 37,000 candidates will be appearing for the JEE Mains for which there are 26 centers in seven cities of the state. Further, Chief Secretary said that candidates who do not have their own transport to reach the examination center or accommodation should enlist for availing government transport and accommodation.
Free accommodation for needy examinees will be arranged at polytechnic institutes, engineering colleges, and ITIs, Tripathy said. He urged aspirants to share details on the number of nodal ITI principals. The government will provide buses to ferry candidates from their home town to the designated entrance venue
For each district one ITI has been declared as a nodal center. Besides, the concerned administration has been asked to make free accommodation arrangement for needy examinees at different government institutions.
