NPR will not be implemented in Madhya Pradesh :CM Kamal Nath
The Congress government in Madhya Pradesh led by CM Kamal Nath has said they will not implement the National Population Register (NPR).
Chief Minister Kamal Nath on Monday refused to implement NPR in Madhya Pradesh. Earlier, the Kamal Nath government passed a resolution against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
After the release of the NPR notification in Madhya Pradesh, Congress MLA Arif Masood opposed it and asked the government to withdraw it.
While issuing a statement on Monday evening, the government said that NPR will not be implemented in Madhya Pradesh.
The NPR notification that Congress MLA Arif Masood is talking about is a notification of December 9, 2019, before CAA came into force.
The statement said that the notification of NPR has not been done under the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019.
Despite this the government has now decided that NPR will not be implemented in the state at present.
