No Brotherhood in office, Odisha govt tells officials

The Odisha government has directed junior officers, other functionaries to maintain decorum at workplace and refrain from addressing their superiors as bhai’ (brother).

In a notification dated November 16, the animal husbandry and veterinary department of Odisha took note of seniors being addressed as bhai which it said is not acceptable.

It has come to the notice that the junior-level officers of the directorate and in field officers are not maintaining official decorum...technical officers are calling bhai to their senior officers, the government notification read.

The notification was issued by Animal husbandry and Veterinary Services director Ratnakar Rout on November 16.

It is not proper in part of any of the government servant to address to their higher authority in this way, whatever personal relation they are having among them during office hours or office premises, which leads to not only violation of Odisha Government Conduct Rules, 1959 but also amounts to subordination, the government notification read.

The notification said that violation of the directive will be viewed seriously and stringent action will be taken against the defaulter.
