Muslim ambulance driver cremates Hindu senior citizen with no family

The Covid-19 pandemic may have created endless problems for the public, but it has also given courageous and kind people an opportunity to shine. The Corona Warriors, as they have come to be known, come in various forms - as doctors, as cops, as social workers and even as people who are helping cremate bodies of Covid-19 victims, who have no one to complete the rites of their final journey.

One such Corona Warrior is Mangalore's Mohammed Asif. An ambulance driver by profession, Mohammed Asif on Thursday cremated the body of a senior citizen, who had died of Covid-19.

The victim, 62-year-old Venugopal Rao, was living at a senior citizen's home. It is believed that his relatives were not willing to take the body from the hospital. No one else came forward to cremate the body due to the Covid-19 scare.

But when Asif heard the tragic news, he approached the local police station and got permission to conduct the final rites. Mohammed Asif claimed the body from the hospital and cremated it with Hindu rituals with some help from his friends on Thursday.
