Master is all set to release on Amazon Prime Video on January 29
After a long wait, Vijay’s Master released in theatres on January 13, 2021. Despite mixed reviews, the film created havoc at the box office and went on to collect more than Rs 200 crore within 10 days globally. The numbers are expected to go up in the coming days and are expected to cross the Rs 10-crore mark in Chennai alone.
Today (January 27), the makers surprised fans by announcing that the film is all said to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on January 29. Thalapathy Vijay too, in his latest statement, said that his fans can now enjoy the film from the comfort of their homes.
But the big question is, will the film replicate the record-breaking success in the OTT space. After the 10-month-long coronavirus-induced shutdown, Master was one film that welcomed cine-goers back to the big screen experience. The movie was more like a test, for producers and distributors to assess the situation. However, despite opposition from a section of people, the film released on time and went on to make wonders at the box office. It was a complete theatre experience and fans gathered in huge numbers to witness their favorite stars in action.
Though releasing Master on an OTT platform after the theatre release is a good move, it’s difficult for the film to recreate the big screen magic on the smaller viewing devices. Vijay’s movie is supposed to be enjoyed with the crowd and not alone. There are many whistle-worthy moments in the film which are an experience in itself only in the theatre atmosphere and not anywhere else. Moreover, the plot is already out which will eventually diminish the interest of the viewers.
