Maanadu: Simbu to play a Muslim guy in Venkat Prabhu's film

Director Venkat Prabhu's Maanadu, which was announced in 2018, is finally taking shape. The film, produced by Suresh Kamatchi, will have Simbu essaying the lead role. According to multiple reports, the film is touted to be a political satire.

On January 16, the makers revealed the cast and crew of Maanadu as promised. In a video message, director Venkat Prabhu revealed that STR aka Simbu will essay the role of a Muslim guy in the film. He also asked Simbu's fans to come up with a suitable name for him.

Venkat Prabhu claims that Simbu will be playing a Muslim for the first time in Maanadu. But, the actor's role in Hansika Motwani's 50th film Maha is named Shoaib.

As reported earlier, Kalyani Priyadarshan, who made her debut in Tamil with Sivakarthikeyan's Hero, will be paired opposite Simbu in the film. Apart from Kalyani, SA Chandrasekar, Bharathiraja, Premgi Amaren and Karunakaran will play pivotal roles in the film.

The technical crew of Maanadu includes composer Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematographer Richard M Nathan and editor Praveen KL. The shooting of Maanadu will begin in the coming days. The press release revealed that another actor will be joining the team soon.

Producer Suresh Kamatchi will make further announcements regarding the film in the coming days. He took to Twitter and wrote, "One More surprise update will b in two days... #str2020maanaadu (sic)" Reportedly, the political satire film will release in August 2020.

Earlier, it was reported that Kichcha Sudeep was roped in as the antagonist for Maanadu. However, the Kannada actor refused it as rumours.
