Lockdown hurts economy but saving lives is more important: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said he is aware of the fact that the nationwide lockdown has hurt the economy and that many people have been affected because of the restrictions on travel and occupation. He however said that while the lockdown is hurting the economy, it is a necessary step that is required to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
"If we see the nationwide lockdown purely from an economic perspective, then it will surely appear to be a costly decision. But the cost is of no comparison when compared to the importance of human life," Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.
The Prime Minister said this in a televised address to the nation today during which he announced that the lockdown will be extended till May 3.
