Kashmir was never yours, Islamic scholar to Pakistan

Published

Kashmir was never a part of Pakistan or will be a part of it, a controversial Islamic scholar has told Pakistan, asking it to face the situation with “honesty”.

“Kashmir was never part of Pakistan. Kashmir will never be part of Pakistan. Both Pakistan and Kashmir belong to India. Muslims converting from Hinduism to Islam… doesn’t change the fact that the entire region is Hindu Land. India is older than Islam let alone Pakistan. Be honest..,” Imam Mohamad Tawhidi said in a tweet.

Tawhidi, whose Twitter handle “@imam of peace”, describes him as a “peace advocate”, a “reformist imam”, and “national bestselling author”, who rejects extremists, and both the far-left/far-right”, had even earlier said his position was consistent that Kashmir was “Hindu land” that never belonged to Pakistan, and he reaffirmed this during his last visit to India.

Gautam Gambhir helps Pakistani child get a visa for heart surgery in India

Former Indian cricketer and BJP MP Gautam Gambhir took to Twitter to welcome a minor girl, Omaima Ali, from Pakistan and her parents after they were granted visas to travel to India for medical purposes following Gambhir’s intervention.

Apparently, Gautam Gambhir had written a letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar appraising him of a girl in Pakistan whose parents wanted to bring her to India for heart surgery.

Acting on Gambhir’s letter, S Jaishankar asked the Indian High Commission in Islamabad to issue visas to the girl and her parents so that she could travel to India.

Gautam Gambhir tweeted a photo of the letter that Jaishankar wrote to him informing that the girl and her parents have been given visas in Islamabad.

Besides the photo, Gambhir also accompanied a couplet in Hindi with the photo in his tweet. The couplet read (translated version):

“When a gentle heart approached us from the other side,
our heart set aside all barriers and boundaries;
with her tiny feet, she also brings sweet air for us,
it appears as if a daughter is visiting her home”

In his letter to Gautam Gambhir, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said, “I have asked our High Commissioner in Islamabad to issue appropriate visas to Omaima Ali and her parents. With regards.”

This is not the first time that despite strained relations with Pakistan, India has issued visa to people in Pakistan on humanitarian grounds so that they could avail of critical medical facilities in India.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday slammed Union Railway and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal for undermining the achievements of Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee, saying the economy is in a shambles while the government, instead of improving the economy, is busy “running a comedy circus”.

“BJP leaders are busy undermining the achievements of others instead of doing the work they have been assigned. The man who won the Nobel prize did his work with honesty and then won the award,” she said.

“Your (government’s) work is to improve the economy and not run a comedy circus,” Priyanka Gandhi tweeted.

She also attached a news report highlighting that despite offering discounts on vehicles, the automobile sales remained dismal.

Goyal on Friday, while congratulating Banerjee on winning the Nobel at a press conference, said: “You all know what his understanding is. His thinking is totally Left-leaning. He had praised the NYAY scheme effusively, but the people of India totally rejected his thinking.”

The NYAY or Nyuntam Aay Yojana is a minimum income guarantee scheme that headlined the Congress manifesto for the national election earlier this year. The party was routed in the polls.

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday clarified that he was enacting the action of flying a ‘kite’ after a video where he was seen performing a dance step went viral on social media.

After a video of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi where he was seen performing a dance step went viral on social media, the Hyderabad lawmaker on Saturday clarified that he was enacting the action of flying a ‘kite’, the party’s electoral symbol, in a bid to spread awareness among the people.

“The electoral symbol of my party is the kite. After every gathering, we enact the action of flying a kite in order to spread awareness among the people. Someone edited the video and added a song to it. The media said that I was dancing. This (video) is wrong,” he told reporters.

The unique way of campaigning was witnessed after Owaisi was getting down from the stage after addressing a rally at Paithan Gate in Aurangabad on Friday.

On the stairs, the AIMIM MP danced for a few seconds, with his steps resembling the act of flying a kite, in an apparent reference to the party symbol.

The AIMIM is contesting on a number of seats in the Maharashtra assembly elections, which are scheduled for October 21. The counting of votes will take place on October 24.
