Karthick Naren's long-delayed film Naragasooran might have an online release due to Covid-19 crisis

Director Karthick Naren made his debut in the industry with a crime-thriller Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru, which went on to become a huge hit. His second outing Naragasooran, starring Arvind Swami, Shriya Saran and Sundeep Kishan in lead roles, was supposed to release in 2018. However, the release got postponed several times due to financial issues.

The latest we hear is that the makers of the film have decided to not release the film in theatres and have initiated talks with Amazon Prime Video, a popular online streaming platform.

In January, the director of the film revealed in one of his interviews that his long-delayed film Naragasooran will hit the screens in March, this year. However, due to the novel coronavirus outbreak, it looks like it is impossible for the makers to release it anytime soon.

Sources say that Karthick Naren and his team have decided to stream their film online instead of delaying it any further.

An official announcement will be made soon. It is worth noting that Harish Kalyan's Dharala Prabhu, which was supposed to re-release in theatres post-Covid-19 crisis, was recently released online as well.

Naragasooran started rolling from September 2017 in Ooty and was predominantly shot there. The film was bankrolled by Shraddha Entertainment and Gautham Menon's Ondraga Entertainment.

Last year, Karthick Naren even engaged on a Twitter war with director Gautham Menon, demanding an update on the film's release. However, Gautham replied saying he no longer holds a stake in the film and it had been sold to Badri Kasturi of Shraddha Entertainment.

Karthick Naren's third film, Mafia: Chapter 1, released on February 21 and garnered a mixed response. The director is currently working on the pre-production of his upcoming film with Dhanush.
