Kamal Haasan completes 61 years in Indian cinema: Lokesh Kanagaraj releases video to pay tribute

As Kamal Haasan completes 61 years in the film industry today (August 12), acclaimed director Lokesh Kanagaraj took to Twitter to release a tribute video. Born on November 7, 1954, Kamal Haasan made his debut as a child artist in the film Kalathoor Kannamma, which released on August 12, 1959. The film not only fetched him National Award for Best Child Actor but also helped him to sign many projects. In his six-decade-long career, he has acted in more than 150 films in different Indian languages, directed several movies and have won many awards. Director Lokesh Kanagaraj, who is all set to team up with Kamal Haasan for the latter's production venture, recently released a tribute video as a mark of respect. The video is the recreation of Potta Padiyudhu song from Kamal starrer Sathya. It's directed by Arvind Sridhar of Simba fame.

Lokesh Kanagaraj shared the video on his social media and wrote, "I take immense joy and pride in wishing @ikamalhaasan sir on 61years of kamalism. Im honoured to release the "REBEL ANTHEM” a location-based cover of the 1987 classic song "POTTA PADIYUDHU" from SATHYA created by “SIMBA” director Arvind Sridhar as a tribute. Kudos @simba_arvind (sic)." Interestingly, the team had shot the song in the same locations where the original was shot 20 years ago. The post went viral after Kamal Haasan shared it on Twitter. He was moved by the video and said that the return gift from his side should be of the same kind. He wrote, "@simba_arvind @Dir_lokesh I am touched. This does not seem like simple nostalgia. This is unconditional love. The return gift from my side could & should only be of the same kind. Love you guys. My motivation, in a marathon you all have allowed me to run (sic)."

Many celebrities and colleagues in the industry wished the actor for completing 61 years in the industry. It is worth mentioning that his long-time friend and superstar Rajinikanth completed 45 years in Indian cinema recently. On the professional front, Kamal Haasan is currently waiting to resume the shoot of his much-awaited film, Indian 2. He is also waiting to work on a film titled Thalaivan Irukkiraan, the sequel of his blockbuster film, Thevar Magan.
