India vs West Indies: Shikhar Dhawan yet to recover from injury
Mayank Agarwal has replaced Shikhar Dhawan for the 3-match ODI series against the West Indies starting on December 15 in Mumbai. Dhawan was also ruled out of the ongoing 3-match T20I series following a knee injury during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
In the T20I series, Kerala wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson had replaced Shikhar Dhawan who is an India regular in the shorter formats.
This is not the first time this year Dhawan has had to be sidelined due to a freak injury. In the 2019 World Cup, Dhawan had suffered a fractured thumb during a heroic hundred against Australia.
Mayank Agarwal, who has had a sensational year in Test cricket, will hope for a maiden ODI cap this month. He was part of the World Cup squad as replacement for Vijay Shankar but did not get a game.
After an impressive start to his Test career in Australia with scores of 76, 42 and 77, Agarwal had a poor series in the 2-Test series in the West Indies but grabbed headlines in India's home season.
Mayank Agarwal scored two double hundreds and a hundred and forged a strong opening partnership with Rohit Sharma as India ended the year unbeaten in Test cricket.
It now remains to be seen whether India choose to send Mayank Agarwal or KL Rahul as Rohit Sharma's opening partner in the 3 ODIs against West Indies.
