Indian 2 accident: Kamal Haasan to donate Rs 1 crore each to family of deceased
Kamal Haasan had a narrow escape from the freak accident that shook the Indian 2 set on Wednesday (February 19) night. A crane fell on technicians leaving three people (Sri Krishna, Madhu and Chandran) dead and 12 people injured in the accident.
The actor reacted quickly and instructed the team to take the injured to the nearest hospital. Ulaganayagan visited the Kilpauk hospital and interacted with the media. He said, "I am donating Rs 1 crore to the family of the deceased. This is not compensation to the lives lost."
Addressing the press, the actor stated, "This incident indicates that the safety of the people in cine industry is still questionable. I was talking to my friends today morning and as an industry, we need to take measures to make sure that such incidents do not happen in future. We take pride in saying that a movie is made on so-and-so crore budget and I personally feel ashamed to say that we couldn't provide safety to the people who work for the film."
Adding further, Kamal remarked, "On my behalf, I am donating Rs 1 crore to the family of the deceased and this is what I can do now. This is not the compensation for what we have lost. Some of them are very poor people. Three years back, I was in an accident. I know how difficult it is to recover from an accident like this. Of the three, only one could probably afford."
Elaborating more about Sri Krishna, he said, "He used to work with me as an assistant and it was only yesterday he came up to me and proudly said that he has joined Shankar's team two days ago. Today, he is no more." For the uninitiated, Krishna is the son-in-law of popular cartoonist Madhan.
"Accidents do not see rich and poor. It could happen to anyone. In fact, I could have in the mortuary with the three dead souls today. I just had a narrow escape. Four seconds before the accident, director and cameraman moved away from the place. Kajal and I were under the tent which got crushed. If I had moved two inches away from my place, someone else would have been talking to you instead of me. There are accidents waiting to happen and we should see that they do not happen, " he narrated the incident.
