India sees biggest single-day jump of nearly 25,000 Covid-19 cases, 487 deaths
In biggest one day-spike, India's coronavirus cases mounted to 7,67,296 on Thursday with 24,879 new infections and 487 fresh deaths were reported in past 24 hours.
According to Union Health Ministry data, positive cases in India now stand at 7,67,296. These include 2,69,789 active cases, while 4,76,378 have recovered. The death toll has, meanwhile, climbed to 21,129.
The recovery rate has improved to over 62 per cent.
Of the total 21,129 deaths reported till 8 am, Maharashtra accounted for the highest fatalities at 9,448 followed by Delhi with 3,213 deaths, Gujarat with 1,993, Tamil Nadu with 1700, Uttar Pradesh with 845.
Maharashtra has also reported the highest number of cases at 2,23,724, followed by Tamil Nadu at 1,22,350, Delhi at 1,04,864, Gujarat at 38,333, and Uttar Pradesh 31,156, according to the ministry's data.
Coronavirus cases have been consistently rising in India. While it took 110 days for coronavirus cases in the country to reach one lakh, it crossed the seven lakh-mark in just 48 days. From 6 lakh cases to 7 lakh cases, India recorded 1 lakh coronavirus cases in 4 days.
Globally, India is now ranked below the United States and Brazil, the two worst-hit nations in the world.
