India records 66,999 new cases in 24 hours, tally nears 24 lakh

India has recorded 66,999 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases reported in India stands at 23,96,637.

The total number of Covid-19 tests done during the previous day is 8,30,391. The number of active cases as of now stands at 6,53,622. The total number of patients discharged is 16,95,982. The total number of deaths due to Covid-19 is 47,033.

Earlier Prime Minister Narendra Modi had urged states to ramp up testing, India's TEST, TRACK, TREAT strategy achieved another peak with 8,30,391 Covid-19 tests conducted in the last 24 hours. This has taken the cumulative tests to more than 2.6 crores.

India achieved another highpoint in its fight against Covid-19 with the total number of recoveries passing the number of active cases.

The health ministry earlier in a statement described the success as the result of the successful implementation of effective containment strategy, aggressive and comprehensive testing coupled with the standardised clinical management of the critical patients based on a holistic standard of care approach.
