INC supported Govt claims It is capable of handling Pakistan at UN

The Indian National congress came out to support the government and said that Government is capable of handling Pakistan at the United Nations and it stands with it in solidarity to tackle manipulative actions of the neighboring country seeking to internationalize Kashmir.

Congress spokesperson Ragini Naik said it is also the government’s responsibility to tackle Pakistan when it uses the statements of opposition leaders like Rahul Gandhi on Kashmir to defame India.

“Kashmir is an inseparable and indispensable part of our country and let me also say that whatever tactics Pakistan is resorting to, I am sure the Indian Government is capable of handling the same at the podium of United Nations. The Congress party stands in solidarity with the government in tackling any such maneuvers or manipulative actions of Pakistan,” she said at a press conference.

The Congress leader said the party condemns Pakistan if it calls Indian prime minister as “Hitler” for the use of words.

“Pakistan wants to internationalize Kashmir issue so as to present India in a bad light and hurt its image. The atrocities and violations of human rights in Pakistan are known the world over. The Congress wants that the Government of India should give a befitting reply to Pakistan and it is fully capable to do that,” she said, adding that such matters should not be politicized.

“If Pakistan calls names to our prime minister or presents the statements of opposition leaders in such a way so as to gain politically, then it is the government’s responsibility to tackle it,” she said.

Naik said it would be good if there is coordination between the opposition and the government, then a day will come when the problem will be eradicated from its roots.

Some minister Amit Shah’s comments, in which he pitched for making Hindi a common language in the country, has re-ignited the debate on ‘Hindi imposition’ with political leaders, particularly those from the south, warning the government against any move to make Hindi a common language in the country.

As a political slugfest erupted over the matter, Minister of State Kiren Rijiju took to Twitter to share an old video in which Congress leader P Chidambaram is heard saying that he hopes efforts to make Hindi as the country’s language would continue.

Rijiju’s tweet came a day after the Congress reacted to Amit Shah’s statement by warning the government against stirring up controversies over “emotive and sensitive issues” and against tinkering with the three-language formula.

Meanwhile, voices of dissent came in from the Bharatiya Janata Party itself with Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa tweeting that for his state “Kannada is the principal language”. “We will never compromise its importance and are committed to promoting Kannada and our state’s culture,” Yediyurappa also said.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital on Wednesday, state secretariat sources confirmed on Monday.

Mamata Banerjee will be leaving for New Delhi on Tuesday, he confirmed, the sources said.

The two leaders likely to hold discussions on administrative issues of West Bengal at the meeting, he added.

Mamata Banerjee has been one of the harshest critics of BJP and PM Narendra Modi.

“An appointment was sought by the chief minister’s office last week for an appointment from PM Narendra Modi’s office for the meeting. It will take place in New Delhi on Wednesday,” the official said.

The proposed meeting assumes significance as it will be held at a time when several leaders of the ruling Trinamool Congress and former Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar are under CBI scanner in connection with the Saradha ponzi scam.

The Saradha group of companies had allegedly duped lakhs of people to the tune of Rs 2500 crore, promising higher rates of returns on their investments.

The last time the two leaders had met was at the convocation ceremony at Visva Bharati University held in Shantiniketan on May 25, 2018.
