Economy in ICU, democracy murdered: Rahul's message before Bharat Bachao rally
Rahul Gandhi says the economy in the "ICU" as he and other top Congress leaders prepare to hold a major rally in Delhi to attack the government.
In a Saturday morning tweet meant to raise awareness of the "Bharat Bachao [Save India]" rally, Rahul decried what he said was the "murder" of democracy.
The Congress has gone hammer and tongs at the Modi government over its handling of the ailing economy as well as a controversial new law on refugee naturalisation that has been protested with particular bitterness in the Northeast, where it is seen as a threat to indigeneity.
On Friday, on the last day of Parliament's Winter Session, Rahul Gandhi accused the government of distracting people from the situation in the Northeast by drawing attention to controversial comments on rape that he had made a day earlier.
On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Congress this week of spreading misinformation about the new citizenship law in the Northeast.
He said the government would protect the language, culture and identity of the region's residents.
The Congress will hold its "Bharat Bachao" rally at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan today, and its overseas unit will conduct demonstrations around the world.
