How are you providing mid-day meals to kids when schools are shut, SC asks state govts
The Supreme Court has taken suo moto cognizance of the non-availability of mid-day meals to children due to the closure of schools in the wake of novel coronavirus outbreak.
The SC bench, Chief Justice of India SA Bobde, on Wednesday issued notices to all state governments and Union Territories, as it asked how children were being provided mid-day meals as schools have shut down.
Schools in most parts of the country temporarily were closed this month after an increase in the confirmed cases of novel coronavirus in India. Schools in Delhi-NCR closed till March 31 in view of the Covid-19 outbreak.
In Kerala, the state government is delivering free mid-day meals to children at their home.
The decision by the Kerala government was announced by the Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan to ensure that underprivileged kids still have access to the mid-day meals served in government schools every day often the only major source of nutrition for these kids.
