Hindu Rao illegal building collapse kills cop, injures another
A Delhi Police ASI died and a constable was injured when an illegal under-construction building collapsed on a three-story structure in the Hindu Rao area in Delhi on Wednesday.
ASI Zakir Hussain, posted at Bara Hindu Rao Police Station, was moved to Aruna Asaf Ali Government Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. The injured constable was identified as Devo Singh.
At the time of the incident, ASI Zakir Hussain and constable Devo Singh had gone there for tenant verification as part of a scrutiny assessment ahead of the Independence Day.
Around 10.20 am when the police personnel reached Gupta Building, Ram Bagh Road, they noticed illegal construction going on at its third floor.
To fill up details and take photographs of the illegal construction, for sending them to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), they went to the third floor. That is when the entire third floor collapsed.
ASI Zakir Hussain hit the ground and constable Devo Singh fell down on the second floor. Laborers, who had been working there, are absconding.
A case has been registered under IPC Section 304A for "causing death by negligence" - whoever causes the death of any person by doing any rash or negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.
ASI Zakir Hussain, a native of Meerut's Kila Parikshit, was a resident of Ram Ghat in Delhi's Wazirabad. He had joined the Delhi Police in 1993. He is survived by his wife and three children.
