SC appoints retired Judge to probe killing of Hyderabad rape accused
Aretired Supreme Court judge will conduct an inquiry into the recent killing of four rape and murder suspects by the Telangana police.
The police said they killed the four lorry workers -- all in their twenties -- when they attacked policemen near the crime scene (near Hyderabad), where they'd been taken to help retrieve the victim's personal belongings.
Chief Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde said the Supreme Court would pass orders tomorrow to appoint the investigating judge, who he said would work from Delhi.
He said the court was aware that the Telangana High Court was already looking into the issue.
Citing "recent events", Chief Justice Bobde said this weekend that the criminal justice system should reconsider its position towards laxity and the time taken to dispose of criminal matters.
He said justice can never be instant and "loses its character as justice" if it becomes revenge.
