Gunjan Saxena to Ludo: Netflix announces 17 new films and series for direct release

After Gulabo Sitabo and Shakuntala Devi, several other big-ticket Bollywood films opted for a direct OTT release. With multiplexes and cinema halls not opening anytime soon, OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+Hotstar are the safest bets to release films. Netflix today announced the names of the films which will be released directly on the streaming platform amid the novel coronavirus scare. Netflix had earlier revealed that Gunjan Saxena, starring Janhvi Kapoor, will be releasing on the OTT platform. The other films which will directly release on Netflix are Torbaaz, Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare, Raat Akeli Hai, Ludo, Class of '83, Ginny weds Sunny, A Suitable Boy, Mismatched, AK vs AK, Serious Men, Tribhanga, Kaalhi Khuhi, Bombay Rose, Bhaag Beanie Bhaag, Bombay Begums and Masaba Masaba.

Directed by Sharan Sharma, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl will see Janhvi Kapoor in the role of Air Force officer Gunjan Saxena, who is India's first women pilot to enter warzone. The actress took to social media to share the news. She wrote, "Proud to bring to you the story of India’s first woman Air Force Officer to go to war. A journey that I hope will inspire you the way that it has inspired me. GunjanSaxena - The Kargil Girl is landing on 12th August to your #Netflix screens! (sic)."

Sanjay Dutt starrer Torbaaz will also be premiered on the streaming platform. Sharing the news the Munna Bhai MBBS actor wrote, "A man rises from personal tragedy to lead a group of children from a refugee camp to victory, transforming their lives through the game of cricket. It's almost time to play! @nargisfakhri @rahuldevofficial #Torbaaz @ramitts @rajuchadhawave @girish_malik Coming soon on @netflix_in (sic)." Announcing his collaboration with Anurag Kashyap, Anil Kapoor wrote, "When @anuragkashyap72 decides to kidnap a kid for his next film, it’s time to show him ki baap baap hota hai! #AKvsAK @VikramMotwane Coming soon on @NetflixIndia (sic)."
