Former AIADMK MLA arrested for sexually assaulting minor

A former AIADMK MLA Nanjil A Murugesan was arrested by the police for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor.

Murugesan was taken into custody by police from farmland near Thisaiyanvilai in Kanniyakumari district.

The allegation against the former Nagercoil MLA dates back to an incident that occurred in 2017. It has been alleged that the Murugesan sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl.

Police have also taken into custody three other men Paul (66), Ashok Kumar (43) and Karthik (28), and the mother of the girl has also been arrested.

The child is believed to have been assaulted by all four men on different occasions with the consent of the girl’s mother.

The girl, now aged 15, recently eloped with a 20-year-old man. Soon after a case was filed against the youth under charges of kidnap. When the girl’s statement was recorded by the police, she also revealed that she was earlier sexually assaulted by the MLA.

The minor who appeared before the court recorded statements and alleged that her mother was having an affair with the legislator.

After hearing the allegations, cases have been filed under POCSO act, sexual assault, showing pornographic content and rape.

Nanjil Murugesan, 53, belonged to AIADMK and served as the Nagercoil MLA from 2011 to 2016.

He has been removed from the primary membership of AIADMK after the allegations against him surfaced.
