Facebook India policy head files complaint with Delhi Police after receiving threats
Facebook India's public policy director Ankhi Das has filed a complaint with the Delhi Police Cyber Crime Department with regards to threats she has received over the past few days.
In her complaint, Ankhi Das has submitted screenshots and names of those who have threatened her.
DCP of South Delhi said that a complaint has been received by Facebook India's public policy director Ankhi Das and investigation is being done in this case. However, the DCP said that no FIR has been registered in this case yet.
In the complaint, Ankhi Das has said that her life is at risk as she has received many hateful threats online.
Some Twitter and Facebook handles have been mentioned in the complaint those who have threatened her. She has demanded immediate registration of FIR in this case.
Ankhi Das's complaint has come at a time when both Congress and BJP have locked horns over the Facebook row.
Several politicians and lawmakers from opposition parties have raised questions after a report published in the US newspaper Wall Street Journal (WSJ) indicated that Facebook’s Hate-Speech Rules collided with the ruling BJP.
Facebook was swift to deny the allegations.
A spokesperson for the company said: “We prohibit hate speech and content that incites violence and we enforce these policies globally regardless of anyone’s political position or party affiliation.”
"While we know there is more to do, we're making progress on enforcement and conduct regular audits of our process to ensure fairness and accuracy," the spokesperson further said.
