Education Ministry sources say no rethink on JEE and NEET, students want to appear for exams
As per top Education Ministry sources, there would be no rethinking about conducting JEE and NEET exams. This means, that JEE and NEET will not be postponed. The official told India Today that students do want to appear for the exams.
Meanwhile, at a meeting led by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee suggested state governments could get together and file an appeal at Supreme Court to postpone JEE and NEET exams.
Seven chief ministers agreed to move SC, challenging Centre's decision to hold the JEE and NEET exams amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
Even though the Covid-19 pandemic is still going strong, the central government and the National Testing Agency (NTA), which is the conducting body for JEE and NEET, are set to go ahead with the entrance exams for which lakhs of students appear from all over India.
The government said that the exams would be carried out as per schedule JEE on September 1 to 6, and NEET on September 13 with all the safety guidelines in place to protect students from the coronavirus.
