ED told SC P Chidambaram not required to be arrested in this case

The Enforcement Directorate told a court here on Thursday that former finance minister P Chidambaram, lodged in Tihar jail in the INX Media corruption case, is not required to be arrested at this stage in the money laundering case.

Special judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar was informed by the ED that Chidambaram is already in judicial custody in the CBI’s corruption case and not in a position to tamper with the evidence.

ED said it will take him into custody in the INX Media money laundering case at an appropriate time. The court was hearing Chidambaram’s plea to surrender in ED’s money laundering case.

New York City police say four people have been killed in a shooting in Brooklyn that also injured three others.

An NYPD spokesman says police responding to a call about shots fired just before 7 am Saturday found four men dead at the scene. A woman and two men suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the shooting took place at 74 Utica Avenue, in the Weeksville neighborhood of Brooklyn. That address corresponded to a private social club on an online map of the street, but police couldn’t immediately describe the type of building in which the shooting took place.

Women and people traveling with children under 12 years of age will be exempted from the odd-even scheme, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Saturday.

At a press conference at the Delhi Secretariat, Arvind Kejriwal said that privately-owned CNG vehicles will not be exempted from the scheme, unlike last time.

The road-rationing of the Delhi government to curb pollution will be implemented for the third time in the national capital after Diwali from November 4 to 15.

“Women driving alone, cars having all women as occupants and women accompanied by children aged less than 12 years will be exempted,” he said.

The decision has been taken keeping in mind their safety, Arvind Kejriwal added.

A decision on whether two-wheelers should be exempted from the scheme or not is yet to be taken and we are consulting experts, he said.

Earlier, sources in the transport department said the government may exempt women, two wheelers and CNG-run vehicles this year as well just like the last two editions of scheme in 2016.

Pakistan is failed to internationalize Kashmir Issue: PaK Imran Khan

Admitting that Pakistan has failed in its attempts to internationalize the Kashmir issue, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday said that he is “disappointed with the international community” over the issue.

Pakistan has been repeatedly snubbed by the international community on several platforms after it cried foul over India’s decision to abrogate Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, with many countries backing New Delhi on the matter.

“(I am) Disappointed by the international community…There’s no pressure yet on Modi,” Imran Khan said, adding, “We’ll keep putting the pressure.”

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Pakistan’s envoy to the UN Maleeha Lodhi were also present at the press conference where Imran Khan spoke.

Both PM Modi and Imran Khan are currently in New York for the UN General Assembly. The two Prime Ministers have also held separate bilateral meetings with US President Donald Trump, who renewed his offer to mediate between the two countries while underscoring that he’ll only do so only if asked by both countries.

Imran Khan also acknowledged India’s economic stature and global prominence while theorising why Pakistan’s narrative on Kashmir is being overlooked. “The reason is that people look upon India as a market of 1.2 billion people,” he claimed.

Even as the world community has respected India’s decision in Kashmir, Pakistan has vowed to bring the topic up when Imran Khan addresses the UN General Assembly on Friday.

Earlier this month, Pakistan Interior Minister Brigadier Ijaz Ahmed Shah had admitted that Islamabad has failed to get support from the international community over its stand on the Kashmir issue. “People do not believe us but they believe them (India),” the minister had said.
