ED raids multiple premises of Maulana Saad’s aide in Mumbai in Tablighi Jamaat case
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out searches at multiple locations in Mumbai in connection with the money laundering case against Tablighi Jamaat Markaz chief Maulana Saad and others. The raids were conducted at the residential premises in Mumbai’s Andheri and SV Road of a person who is an alleged associate of Maulana Saad.
A team from Delhi ED arrived in Mumbai on Wednesday morning and with assistance from Mumbai ED officials and security back up of CRPF, the search operations started in the Andheri area.
The ED team initially started the operations with search at the residential apartment in Jasmine Coop housing society located on SV Road in the Andheri area of western Mumbai. The search according to sources was being carried out at the residence of a suspected associate of Maulana Saad. The apartment is located on the 10th floor of the building.
Officials refused to divulge any further information on the identity of the person whose house was being searched.
In April 2020, the ED had lodged a case after Delhi Police filed an FIR against Maulana Saad on charges of culpable homicide and violation of the lockdown rules.
Sources said the financial probe agency suspects that Maulana Saad's organization had received a huge amount of money from foreign countries and it was not disclosed before the government authorities. Eight associates of Maulana Saad have also been booked by the ED.
Sources say account books of the Markaz trust have also being scrutinized. The ED will look at whether the donations received was due to money laundering and whether hawala channels were utilized.
The financial probe agency had earlier grilled at least four close associates of Maulana Saad under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) who also hold an official position in Markaz.
