Delhi violence forces Amit Shah skip Trump welcome event, convenes 2nd meeting in 12 hours
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has convened second meeting with the Delhi police officers in 12 hours over violence in the national capital. Amit Shah skipped the welcome ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan for visiting US President Donald Trump this morning.
Amit Shah held a midnight review meeting with the Delhi Police officers and senior bureaucrats of the home ministry. The meeting is said to have went on till 1.30 am on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
With fresh reports of violence in Delhi on the day of official talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Trump, Amit Shah called another meeting with officers and also invited Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Clashes have been reported from North East district of Delhi over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The clashes have involved groups hitting the streets in support of and against the CAA.
A number of protesters and police personnel have been injured in the violence in Maujpur, Jafrabad and Bhajanpura. Five persons including a head constable of the Delhi Police have lost their lives in the violence.
Situation remains tense in the affected areas. Police deployment has been increased in these areas.
