Congress suspends Pilot camp MLA Bhanwar Lal over leaked audio tapes, demands arrest of Union minister
Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala stepped in to address the media on Friday instead of Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot and read out transcripts of the purported audio tapes discussing toppling of the state government.
Surjewala announced that Congress has suspended MLA Bhanwar Lal Sharma whose audio tapes were doing the rounds on social media.
"An FIR should be registered against Bhanwar Lal Sharma and apart from that the party has decided to suspend Bhanwar Lal Sharma and Vishwendra Singh, from their primary membership of the party," said Surjewala.
“The purported sensational tapes that came forward have conversations of Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Bhanwar Lal Sharma, and BJP leader Sanjay Jain. It is a black episode for democracy,” said Surjewala on Friday.
Purported audio clips of conversations between Bhanwar Lal Sharma, an MLA of the Sachin Pilot camp, with Shekhawat have gone viral on social media.
“If this is not horse-trading, then what is,” asked Surjewala.
Congress has suspended MLA Bhanwar Lal and Vishvendra Singh following the surfacing of the tapes. The two leaders have also been issued show cause notices by the party.
“We demand a case be registered against Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and him be arrested,” said Surjewala on the Union minister whose voice was also heard in the tapes. The Congress has also demanded that the hawala transactions be tracked.
On the other hand, Surjewala asked Sachin Pilot to come forward and make his stand clear on this.
Surjewala has demanded that an FIR be lodged by the SOG group against central minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat over his attempts to destabilise the duly elected government in Rajasthan.
"There is a need to investigate central government ministers, officials, and agencies that are working to topple the state government," said Surjewala.
