Centre spent Rs 100 crore on Trump event, why should poor migrants pay train fare: Priyanka Gand
ongress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra mounted the party’s attack on Modi government and Indian Railways for asking migrant labourers to pay for their train fare to go home.
Sharing Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s statement saying the party will pay for the ticket fare for poor migrant labourers who are unable to pay the prices, Priyanka Gandhi launched an attack on the Modi government.
In a series of tweets, Priyanka Gandhi said, “Labourers are the ones who build the nation. But today they have been left in the lurch and this is an extremely painful sight for the country.”

भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस ने निर्णय लिया है कि घर लौटने वाले मजदूरों की रेल यात्रा का पूरा खर्च उठाएगी।
“When we can bring home hundreds of NRIs back home from other countries with no costs, when we spend Rs 100 crore from the state exchequer for an event like Namaste Trump, when the Railways donates Rs 151 crore to the PM Cares fund, then why can’t labourers be given a free rail ride back to their homes,” asked Priyanka Gandhi in a tweet.
Congress on Monday announced its decision to pay for the train fare of stranded migrant labourers who cannot pay for their train fare.
Sonia Gandhi also slammed the Modi government for making the poor people pay in times of distress.
However, BJP has issued a clarification that the Centre has subsidised 85% of the train fare for the migrants taking the Shramik Special trains while the state governments has been asked to collect 15% of the fare.
BJP has also said that the state governments can pay the 15% of the train fare to help the migrants
