BMC circular a violation of human rights, says BJP on changed testing strategy
The BJP has intensified its protest against the BMC circular which prohibits private labs from directly handing the Covid-19 positive report to the patient or family.
BJP leader Ram Kadam and other BJP supporters on Thursday staged a silent protest outside the BMC headquarters. Speaking to India Today TV, Ram Kadam asked, “Isn’t it the right of the person and the family to know whether a person who has been tested is positive or not. The BMC plans to first examine the report and then give it to the person. Till that time, the person and his family should keep on suffering?”
BMC commissioner Iqbal Chahal had on Wednesday informed India Today TV that the circular was intended to provide beds to the patients in need of it and not asymptotic patients who were occupying beds thereby creating a shortage in the city.
The BMC Commissioner had also stated that private hospitals were often admitting asymptotic patients to earn money and hence they have now been barred from admitting asymptotic patients.
The BJP leader also claimed that the BMC first hid the number of deaths in the city and now was lying on this issue as well. He said the BMC had put out the circular only because of the fact that it was facing shortage of beds and hence has now found a cover up.
On Wednesday, senior BJP leader Kirit Somaiya had written a letter to BMC commissioner asking the circular be withdrawn.
