BJP protests at BMC HQ, flags coronavirus response concerns
BJP leaders protested at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) headquarters today to flag concerns about its response to the coronavirus pandemic.
The largest party in the BMC is the Shiv Sena, a former BJP ally which also runs the state government with coalition partners.
Rahul Narvekar, a BJP MLA, and corporators Makrand Narvekar and Harshita Narvekar protested at the BMC headquarters.
The BJP complained of inadequate testing and municipal fever clinics it said private testing was being denied to patients without municipal prescriptions.
It also flagged the unhygienic conditions in isolation centres and hospitals, as well as the bad quality of food.
The 1916 helpline is unable to provide hospital beds or ambulances for prolonged periods even for critical patients, it said.
Maharashtra has reported more coronavirus cases than any other Indian state or territory: over 62,000, a number that includes more than 2,000 deaths.
