Bihar BJP MLA Sanjeev Chaurasia takes part in Covaxin clinical trials at AIIMS Patna
Bihar BJP MLA from Digha, Sanjeev Chaurasia has become the first public representative in the state to take part in phase 3 clinical trials of Covaxin, the Covid-19 vaccine developed by Bharat Biotech. Chaurasia participated in the trials at AIIMS Patna on Tuesday.
After taking the shot, Sanjeev Chaurasia lauded scientists and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the government's decision to grant emergency use authorization for two vaccines- Covishield (developed by Oxford Unistry and AstraZeneca, and Covaxin.
"I would like to thank the scientists of Bharat BioTech for developing this vaccine. I also want to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this. I have volunteered for the phase 3 trial of this vaccine," Sanjeev Chaurasia said.
Sanjeev Chaurasia also used the opportunity to target the Opposition and accused them of "playing politics" over the two vaccines.
He said opposition parties "must have got a befitting reply" after he got himself took the vaccine shot at AIIMS Patna.
"This is certainly a befitting reply to the Opposition, who instead of lauding scientists and the PM, are criticizing them," he said.
Phase 3 trials of Covaxin are being held in AIIMS Patna. As of Monday, more than 1,200 people had volunteered for the trials and taken the first dose of the vaccine. The Phase 3 trials in Patna are expected to end in about two months.
