Bengal govt revises lockdown dates for fourth time; Kolkata airport to remain closed during shutdown
The West Bengal government has once again revised the dates for complete lockdown in August.
As per the latest order by the Bengal government, lockdown will be in force in the state on August 5, 8, 20, 21, 27, 28 and 31.
While the government has retained August 5, 8 and 31, it replaced the dates of other lockdown days -- August 16, 17, 23 and 24 -- from its previous order with August 20, 21, 27, and 28.
The new dates of lockdown in Bengal exclude Sundays. This is the fourth time that the Bengal government has revised the August lockdown dates.
The government said it changed the lockdown dates after it received several appeals and requests from multiple quarters to relax complete lockdown on certain dates which are coinciding with festivals.
The Bengal government said, “In view of the requests received and in due consideration of the sentiment of the public, the aforementioned modification has been declared. It has been reiterated that all restrictions and guidelines which have been notified earlier shall apply."
Meanwhile, Kolkata Airport will be closed on the dates of lockdown in Bengal.
The Kolkata Airport Authority said on Friday, “As per State Govt. order dated 03.08.2020, flight operations at Kolkata Airport will remain suspended on the revised lockdown days: 5th, 8th,20th, 21st, 27th, 28th & 31st August 2020.”
This came after the state government issued a revised notification on complete lockdown in West Bengal.
